Maestro Miguel Espinoza is an award-winning virtuoso flamenco guitarist/composer described by Guitar Player magazine as “mesmerizing.” Gracefully balancing tradition and innovation, he blends flamenco with Northern Indian percussion, Latin jazz and classical flavors to create an exotic, intoxicating musical elixir–one that is as sonically exciting as it is emotionally moving.
His three albums have received critical acclaim—and won fans worldwide.
A child prodigy, Espinoza gave his first guitar recital on PBS at the age of nine. In addition to touring nationally and internationally with both his own group, Curandero, and various Spanish dance companies, he has collaborated with world-renowned musicians such as Béla Fleck and Kai Eckhardt (John McLaughlin Trio), with whom he recorded the award-winning album Aràs. His solo album, Guitarra en Mano (2008), the Indie Acoustic Project’s Best CD of 2009 Award in the Latin category. In addition to performing, he offers private lessons, workshops and masterclasses. A new release is anticipated in 2017.
Miguel really enjoys teaching his students and has a fun and encouraging teaching style that adapts to each individual’s level and way of learning. He offers techniques, chord harmony, scales applicable to all styles of music. Whether his students want to master pop, country, rock, world music, flamenco, jazz or Brazilian jazz—or learn to accompany their voice with guitar—Miguel has all the tools to help them become professionals. Some of Miguel’s students have gone on to be accepted to conservatories and music schools such as Berkeley School of Music.
